Q1:
"Hi Sean. How you recovering from the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic?"

I'm recovering well thanks

More on Q1...
I saw you talk today about going to a paddle event this weekend (albeit more social than active), are you going to get b..
More on Q1...
..ack in so quick?

You betcha!

Paddling is truly something i love, why wait?? :)

Q2:
"Great, how does it feel to have completed your personal goal to do the Challenge?"

Bittersweet

In some ways a huge relief that I actually completed it, but now there is a void left over, a "goal void"

More on Q2...
I guess that is fair enough, given how long you worked up to it. Are you proud of what you did?

Proud isn't quite the right word. Relieved is more like it! But it's just a one step in a long journey, so I have to move on

More on Q2...
The long journey being?

Life! ;)

Sorry, that was flippant. i don't really know, just a journey of self-discovery I guess. I cant really define it

Q3:
"That's fine. What were the highlights from last weekends event?"

Burnsies chicken noodle soup, hands down!

More on Q3...
lol. that was pretty good.

I did see some really interesting sights too

More on Q3...
such as?

Phosphorescent algae causing a glowing bow wake (like glowing ribbons in the water) for starters

The stars were incredibly vibrant too, at one point they were teh only things I could see

The Hawkesbury at dusk was pretty

More on Q3...
yeah it was a pretty dark night
Q4:
"What were the low points of the event?"

There were a few. I copped alot of grief for using a traditional greenland (inuit) paddle, which surprised me

There was less social banter on the water than I had expected too

On a personal level, hitting the incoming tide at about the 40-50km mark was a heartbreaker

More on Q4...
Yes the tide really did seem to hit the paddlers hard

Then at 80km when i was in agony from pressure sores, and sleep deprived, and just exhausted - that was hard too

More on Q4...
was that point where you started falling asleep at the paddle?

Yeah, the tide runs close to 4km/hr against you so it really does hurt

Yeah, around the 70-80km mark I got the blinks. Not good in a tippy sea-kayak!

Q5:
"I wrote a post today about the lack of 'social' banter / atmosphere, I think it surprised us all. "
More on Q5...
especially out on the water, it did seem to be very serious>

Yes, I was really shocked about that. Off the water too, it was much more serious than it should have been

On the water there was definitely some competitive aggression too.

I expected a fun festival atmosphere, and there only atmosphere amongst the Team Fat Paddler groundcrew!

More on Q5...
Well we tried. Your paddling brand does help to not take things so seriously. It is growing in recognition!!

Haha, well lets hope so. My brand is all about paddling for fun afterall!

Q6:
"The event is principally about raising money for the Arrow Foundation - how much did you raise?"

A little over $3,600 I believe. Not a bad amount!

More on Q6...
that's excellent. How much of that came from tweeps?

Over $1000 came from people on Twitter, a really impressive amount. Oustanding in fact (thx everyone!)

More on Q6...
I think you didn't quite raise the highest amount as an individual but another Team Fat Paddler did? How much did Ned ra..
More on Q6...
..ise?

Ned raised approx $12,000 on his own. I mean, that's just amazing! He'll top the individual top score. I'll come 2nd probably.

More on Q6...
pretty amazing what a couple of individual paddlers can do! Well done!

Well, a couple of paddlers and the generosity of people out there. It's good to know there are lots of charitable peeps out there

Q7:
"The next big question... What is the next big goal for you?"

So many people are asking me that right now!

More on Q7...
lol

The honest answer is I'm not sure. I have some short-term goals however that will lead into bigger ones soon enough.

In a nutshell, I want to head out to sea

Q8:
"There has been a lot of talk about making Team Fatpaddler a regular fixture at the HCC. Bringing fun back to the paddle?"

I think that's a great idea! I'd love to see us become an actual registeredd club and enter a full club team to shake things up

I'd quite like to do it next time in something funky, like a canadian canoe! Thats IF I do it again!

More on Q8...
Ha! For the record that was going to be the next question... will you do it again?

I don't know yet. It was a goal that I set, and have now completed, so it doesn't have the same pull for me now

There are other events that have different challenges, like the Avon Descent in WA

More on Q8...
Well maybe if a good social challenge group gets together might make it worth joining in.

It has white water!

Yes, as a social thing I'd be happy to get involved!

More on Q8...
ah white water!! An even bigger challenge

Being involved in a social capacity next time would be fun, but it wont be a "Goal" per se.

Q9:
"Well thanks for the chat. It was great to be part of, and as a final word, you achieved a lot. You should be proud ireck.."
More on Q9...
..on!

Thanks mate. And a bug thanks to you and the other Team Fat Paddler crew for making it possible. :)

BIG thanks!

More on Q9...
lmao ... paddle hard!
