The tweeterview as recorded:

Q1:
"Thanks so much for your time, Mick! Glad you could make it."

No worries.. happy to be here

More on Q1...
Can you give us the condensed "Mick Huxley" story?

Been in IT for 9 years, started on a Service Desk to Server Support, have moved around since then and now I'm a solution architect

More on Q1...
Why did you get into IT?

It's hobby, that's turned into a career.. Did IT at school and then whist having a year of Uni, got a job and never looked back

More on Q1...
That's not uncommon, even still today. Would you recommend IT as a career path?

100% but your heart needs to be in it. People who have the passion are the best IT Pros / Devs I've found

More on Q1...
Always with the passon... :)
Q2:
"How is the IT landscape different now to when you first joined the industry? "

Virtualisation has changed everything, DR is easier, Mgmt is easier and IT is more dynamic as a result.

More on Q2...
Are you seeing any resistance to some of these "new" technologies from other techs or management?

All the time. I find as well as documenting ROI and TCO, getting a demo working for Mgmt often gets things over the line

Q3:
"What key technologies do you use predominantly in your professional life? Which ones do you really like? ;) "

I've always loved Exchange and now OCS too. But these days work with anything from storage, servers, software. I like NetApp gear

Q4:
"What about personally - what gear do you use when you're getting your geek on at home?"

Not much.. I've got a lappy and my #auteched netbook from last year and an Xbox. Nothing more then that..Don't geek much at home

oh and I've got iQ2 so never invested in a PVR

More on Q4...
That's not unreasonable. You have to be able to "switch off" from work sometimes...
Q5:
"You're active within the Microsoft community in AU, particularly SYD. How many #auteched events have you attended? "

4 now.. 2004 in Canberra, 2007 Gold Coast, 2008 Sydney and 2009 Gold Coast.. we had red bull fridges in 2004, that was good

More on Q5...
Like #geeks need more caffiene!! ;) All fun for you, I'm guessing. Why do you attend?

I attend sessions about products I don't know too well, so I can learn where they work and integrate in landscape

I find I develop better solutions as a result

Last year the community side of #auteched really was a big thing for me, and twitter enabled that

Q6:
"What are some of your #AuTechEd highlights?"

Any of Steve Riley's or Jesper johansson's sessions. I discovered some Marcus Murray's sessions on the DVD and he is awesome too

More on Q6...
I concur - Jesper is a voice in the security wilderness quite often.

I've got the Windows Server 2008 Security Resource book that Jesper wrote on my bookshielf. He dives too which is cool

Q7:
"You mentioned the community vibe from last year's #auteched - what made it different to previous events?"

I met more people last year then all the others together and twitter and you enabled that

More on Q7...
Aw #Shucks. <blushes>
Q8:
"Will you be attending this year? What are you looking forward to from the 2010 #auteched?"

I hope so. It's the 1st b'day of #autechheads. Also want to learn more about Sys Centre. I've always used competing products

Q9:
"What #auteched #toptip (or tips) would you offer to people attending for the first time?"

Get on twitter and get involved. Also be able to drink hard and back up early the next morning. It's a big week

More on Q9...
It's the biggest week my liver and lack of sleep mechanism deals with every year, that's for sure!...
Q10:
"Are you a member of any user groups?"

I've been to #sbtug once and I'm always at the Sydney Windows User Group #swug that @aussienick heads up..

I'll be presenting Remote FX at #swug later this year

Q11:
"What is this #AuTechHeads thing ppl keep seeing pop up in relation to #auteched? Are you involved in that?"

#autechheads is the brain child of @ohcrap and I see it as a user group in the cloud.

More on Q11...
Pfft! The cloud. Like that makes anything better... ;)

It's not geographically based which gives it a cloud feel.. but we have meet ups as well (occasionaly)

More on Q11...
Is it exclusive? Can anyone join?

No anyone can join. We've got 138 members now and it's a mix of junior and senior people. Dev's, IT Pro and Sales people

More on Q11...
So, it's really a 'superset' of user groups - a resource base where ppl can learn, share and communicate with techs at all..
More on Q11...
.. levels?

Yeah get involved, if you want to just read that's cool but the more you contribute the better.

Q12:
"Why do you think other people should get involved with #AuTechHeads? Why did you?"

I've learned a lot out of #autechheads, it comes back to the passion you have for IT and wanting to learn from your peers

I joined to learn more but also to help others

More on Q12...
Got a couple more questions, if you've the time? Really appreciate your availability so far...

yeah go for it

Q13:
"You're a identified poker fanatic - how long have you been playing?"
Q14:
"Any great #pokerhux successes?"

Had a few tournament wins and lotsa cash wins as well. I spend a lot of time in Melbourne with work and I give Crown a work out

More on Q14...
One more question, if I can push my luck?...

Go for it

Q15:
"What 3 essential items should *all attendees* bring with them for #AuTechEd 2010?"

The right attidude (be prepared to learn), a lappy for tweeting and lots of business cards

More on Q15...
Nice work! Thanks Mick - appreciate your time for this @tweeterview. See you at #AuTechEd!
