The tweeterview as recorded:

Q1:
"Well Froosh - welcome, and thanks for your time this evening. Glad we could finally schedule this chat!"

Hehe, it's taken a while to find some quiet time. Glad to give it a whirl though. :)

Q2:
"OK, we're (well at least I am) dying to know… What's with the wombat profile pic? Granted, they are grouse little animals..."

Of course. You know when you are fishing for a temp account name, password, etc, the first thing that comes to mind? "Wombat"

Most people end up with "Fred" or something... The avatar was drawn by @firstdogonmoon a few years back and I love it totally :D

More on Q2...
It is awesome - I know you are an enthusastic Cub Pack leader - is it your leader name?

If I were a Joey Scout leader, sure, but Cub Scouts source names from The Jungle Book. My pack name is Hathi, the elephant.

More on Q2...
Of course they do (my bad - being a retired Cub/Scout/Venturer I should know that). Still, Wombats rule, & it's a great pic.
Q3:
"So, how did you get into IT? "

Hmm, probably when I was 5 or so and my parents got a Commodore PET. I think the course was set from then on :)

More on Q3...
A Commodore PET! That's a great vintage...

Professionally, it came when I enjoyed working on computers more than the telephone exchanges we used them to communicate with.

Q4:
"Your role of late is more specific than "generic IT nerd" - you're working on a sizeable Active Directory deployment. Having fun.."

Yes, though not strictly a deployment, more a long overdue overhaul of an existing AD forest untended for 9 years or so...

Mostly it /is/ fun, though trying to gain consensus from the 20+ IT groups involved is ... challenging to say the least

More on Q4...
9 years! I'm sure they are well overdue some of your special brand of intelligence required to tidy it up?!
More on Q4...
Is there a specific challenge, consensus aside, that you've had to work hard to overcome with this role?

Working for a large organisation, a university in this case, means that the general Microsoft training/docs don't quite apply

Some unorthodox approaches must be taken ... the scale is quite a bit bigger than I'm used to: 80,000+ accounts

Q5:
"Is this where an event like #AuTechEd is important for you to attend?"

Most definitely. It is near impossible to devise suitable solutions solo. More intensive training and peer networking is required.

More on Q5...
80K accounts is no mean feat! Are you supporting that on Win2K8 R2 w/- PowerShell?

Migration to 2k8R2 is a slow process. Removing references to old Domain Controllers is not quick. Powershell helps daily though!

Q6:
"How many times have you attended #AuTechEd? What are some of your highlights?"

I've been fortunate to attend #auteched 07/09 and the highlights are almost too numerous to list. Getting to know @NickHodge in 07

And @SuperLilia's Group Policy Preferences and PowerShell in 09 would be the standout 2. #3 is the extreme peer networking :)

More on Q6...
Yes, it's a shame that @superlilia cannot make it in '10 to continue spreading the #GPPrefs love. @alanburchill will have to do.
Q7:
"Will you be attending #AuTechEd this year?"

Doesn't look like it at present. Sharing the experience around the team is a worthwhile purpose though!

More on Q7...
Indeed. But we do all appreciate the presence of the @Froosh whenever we can! Why would you recommend attending #AuTechEd?
Q8:
"What #AuTechEd #toptip (or tips) would you offer to people attending for the first time? "

If they're reading this, they've already hit step 1: Get on Twitter :) The "behind the scenes" conference happens here.

I think there is always a lot to learn from #auteched, but the experience is so much richer when shared with like-minded peers.

If you can't attend with co-workers, make sure you talk to as many people as possible - don't attend alone! #auteched #toptip

More on Q8...
Nice - I agree. Having the nerve to speak with ppl at #AuTechEd is indeed an awesome thing. Such a good community.
More on Q8...
I *believe* this year all the sessions will be available to anyone after the fact. A big help on returning to the real world?

For sure! I've *ahem* borrowed some material from last year's GP/GPP sessions for training co-workers. Extremely valuable resource

Q9:
"Are you a member of any user groups?"

Just two, a Melbourne-based one: MIAG/MSII now MSIG spearheaded by @OrinThomas, and the fast growing #AuTechHeads :)

More on Q9...
What's #MSIG all about?

#MSIG is Melbourne Security and Infrastructure Group, for all IT 'faiths' but covers a lot of Microsoft technologies

Q10:
"Why did you join up as a member of #AuTechHeads?"
Q11:
"They sound like the reasons for why you think other people should get involved with #AuTechHeads as well then, huh?"

hehe, most definitely. And to steal a phrase: #auteched and #autechheads, better together :D

More on Q11...
Ha ha, indeed. Just one more question, if you don't mind?

No problems, hit me with it!

Q12:
"What 3 essential items should *all attendees* bring with them for #AuTechEd 2010?"

You need a smart phone to feel the twitterpulse of the conference, a net/notebook for in-session notes (and perhaps participation)

But most of all, you need to bring LEGO! :D

More on Q12...
LEGO FTW!
Q13:
"Froosh, thanks so much for your time tonight. Shame we'll miss you at #AuTechEd, but I know we'll find you on Twitter! :)"

Indeed, I'll miss it, but I know that #AuTechEd-at-home and #AuTechHeads will help get me the information I need. Thank you, sir.

More on Q13...
Cheers mate!
